Republican U.S. Senate candidate Pat Toomey proposed ways to help small businesses during a news conference this morning in Erie.
He suggested lower capital gains taxes and fewer regulatory burdens at a campaign stop at General Exterminating, 5526 Peach St.
Toomey, a former congressman from Lehigh County, also suggested getting what he called wasteful spending under control.
One way to do that, he said, would be to rescind the balance of the unspent $787 billion federal stimulus package and use that money toward reducing the size of the $1.6 trillion federal deficit. Toomey said about 60 percent of the stimulus money hasn't been spent.
Toomey was introduced by Donna Reese, a co-owner of General Exterminating.
Toomey is running against U.S. Rep. Joe Sestak, a Delaware County Democrat, in the Nov. 2 election.
