Allentown, PA – In an appearance on Fox in Philadelphia this morning, Sen. Arlen Specter embraced new tax hikes, saying: “I think we’re going to have to have a re-evaluation of taxing . . . We cannot continue to spend for future generations. That’s an absolute imperative” (The Hill, 05/03/10).
“What exactly has Arlen Specter been doing for the past year?” Toomey Communications Director Nachama Soloveichik asked. “Does he not remember the many votes he has taken to spend trillions of taxpayer dollars, pushing the country’s deficit to unprecedented levels?”
Let’s refresh his memory:
- Specter voted to bailout Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (RC #157, 06/25/08) (RC #186, 07/26/08)
- Specter voted for the $700 billion bailout of Wall Street (RC #213, 10/01/08)
- Specter voted for the bailout of the auto industry (RC # 215, 12/11/08)
- Specter voted for the $787 billion “stimulus” (RC #64, 02/13/09)
- Specter voted for the $410 billion FY 2009 Omnibus (RC #96, 03/10/09)
- Specter voted for the trillion dollar government-run health care bill (RC #353, 11/21/09) (RC #396, 12/24/09)
- Specter voted for the $447 billion FY 2010 Omnibus (RC #374, 12/12/09)
- Specter voted to increase the debt limit by $1.9 trillion to $14.3 trillion (RC #14, 01/28/10)
- Specter voted against ending the Wall Street bailout (RC #267, 08/06/09) (RC #2, 01/21/10)
- Specter voted against a one-year moratorium on earmarks (RC #50, 03/16/10)
- Specter voted against a bipartisan efforts to institute discretionary spending limits (RC #42, 03/04/10)
“After voting for trillions of dollars in new government spending, Arlen Specter now makes a laughable claim to want spending restraint. After thirty years in Washington, you just can’t believe what Arlen Specter says anymore. But one thing you can be sure he’s serious about, and that’s wanting to raise our taxes even more,” Soloveichik added.
